Mark T. Stilwell

I'm Mark T. Stilwell, a dedicated attorney based in Spearfish, South Dakota, specializing in business and estate planning law. Originally from Florida, I earned my Bachelor's in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida and my law degree from Liberty University School of Law. I passed the bar exam in the 90th percentile nationally, which underscores my commitment to legal excellence.

My Journey

I grew up in Florida where I never saw snow, the northern lights, or mountains. After I graduated high school, I pursued civil engineering. I successfully completed calculus I, II, III, differential equations, general physics I, II, and general chemistry all while working full-time and living on my own.

I changed my major and subsequently graduated the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in legal studies. I attended law school at the height of COVID-19 but remained in-person and studious through that challenging time.

I graduated law school with my Doctor of Jurisprudence in the top half of my class from Liberty University School of Law. I passed the South Dakota Bar exam in the 90th percentile of the nation. I was hired by Presiding Judge Michael W. Day of South Dakota’s Fourth Judicial Circuit to be his law clerk.

As a law clerk, I tailored my knowledge of the law to the needs of South Dakota by assisting and ensuring each circuit or magistrate judge ruled in a manner consistent with the law. My life experience through hard work, effectively managing my time, and prospectively planning for the future reflects the South Dakota values I hold dear.
